Status: 08/25/2023 10:19 p.m

Shericka Jackson is the 200m queen! The Jamaican won gold with an outstanding run at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest on Friday (08/25/2023) and defended her title from Eugene. Gabrielle Thomas took silver, Sha’Carri Richardson secured bronze.

Many eyes were on 100m world champion Richardson, who was targeting double gold. But right from the start it was clear that this title would go to Jackson. The Jamaican, who had won silver in the 100 m, raced across the track in the Budapest World Cup stadium in a controlled, concentrated and lightning-fast manner and won in a sensational 21.41 seconds. No female sprinter has ever run faster at the world championships.

“I feel like I’m a living testimony that you can achieve something if you really want it and never give up”Jackson said. “I think I did pretty well tonight – 21.41 is a time I can’t complain about. As for the world record – I’m close, I’m close, I’m getting there.”

Fraser-Pryce declined to participate

Jackson’s teammate Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, behind Allyson Felix the most successful athlete in World Championship history, decided not to double the distance after taking bronze in the 100m and is concentrating on the 4x100m relay. Jackson will also be there in the final on Saturday (9:53 p.m.) and will be looking for the next World Cup gold.
