Athletics: Vetter has no chance of a comeback

The former javelin throwing world champion Johannes Vetter has made his comeback after a year’s break from competition, but still left room for improvement.

At the FBK Games in Hengelo, the 30-year-old reached 72.85 m in his longest attempt and finished last. European Champion Julian Weber secured the victory with 87.14 m.

Vetter hadn’t competed in a year because of a persistent shoulder injury. The German record holder missed both the World Championships in Eugene and the European Championships in Munich.

Shooting star Armand Duplantis triumphed again in the pole vaulter. The world record holder from Sweden jumped 6.11 m and thus a whole 30 centimeters more than the runner-up Kurtis Marschall (Australia/5.81 m). Vice European Champion Bo Kanda Lita Baehre was fifth with 5.61 m.
