Merlin Hummel secured the German championship title for men in the hammer throw.
On Sunday (06/26/2022) the hammer for the Kulmbacher was 72.51 meters. With that, Hummel beat his opponent Tristan Schwandke by seven centimeters – a tiny amount in a hammer throw. Sören Klose from Frankfurt am Main completed the podium with 67.39 meters.
Lea Wipper, on the other hand, won the javelin throw. 60.98 meters were clearly enough for victory ahead of Annika Marie Fuchs and Dana Bergrath.
Harting misses LA World Cup
After the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Rio Olympic champion Christoph Harting will also miss the upcoming World Championships in Eugene/USA. At the German championships in Berlin, the 32-year-old did not get better than fourth place and 59.91 m and thus clearly missed the norm (66 m). His best performance of the season is 60.93 m. Old master Martin Wierig (64.25) secured the title ahead of Henrik Janssen (62.88/both Magdeburg) and Torben Brandt (59.92/Berlin).
In order to be able to qualify for the home European Championships in Munich (15th to 21st August), Harting still has to reach the standard of 65.20 m by the end of July.
