Athletics on Saturday: Lückenkemper stays under eleven seconds when winning

The returned Gina Lückenkemper secured victory in the 100 meter sprint with a strong time under eleven seconds.

For the first time in almost four years, Lückenkemper stayed below the magic mark in the final of the German championships on Saturday (June 25th, 2022). With 10.99 seconds she secured the title ahead of Rebekka Haase in 11.20 seconds. “I’m so happy that it worked out here again”, said Lückenkemper in the sports show. However, she did not want to reveal anything about goals for the next major events.

Owen Ansah triumphed over the men’s 100 meters in 10.10 seconds ahead of Julian Wagner. “I know for sure, my strength lies in the last 50 meters”said Anah. It should now go around the world, according to the winner. Next up are the European Championships in Munich in August.

Marlene Meier won the 100 meter hurdles title in an exciting race. The four first place finishers all ran personal best times. In the end, Meier was the fastest with a time of 13.15 seconds. Monika Zapalska and Franziska Schuster completed the podium. “I was hoping for a medal, but I never thought that things would go so well and that the times would be so fast.”said the winner.

In the men’s category, veteran Martin Vogel won with 13.74 seconds ahead of Tim Eikermann with 13.78 seconds and Stefan Volzer with 13.83 seconds.

Mohumed with title over 5,000 meters

In the men’s 5,000 meters, Mohamed Mohumed and Sam Parsons fought a close race. It was only on the final straight that Mohumed won in 13:43.48 minutes. “He said I won’t make it too easy for you”, said the winner about his opponent. Parsons was ultimately only 32 hundredths behind.
