Sprinter Gina Lückenkemper just missed the 11-second barrier at the Diamond League meeting in Chorzow.
Germany’s Sportswoman of the Year was seventh in the Polish heat over 100 m in 11.09 seconds, victory went to the American Sha’Carri Richardson (10.76). One month before the World Championships in Budapest (19th to 27th August), Lückenkemper is still waiting for the first 100m race under eleven seconds this summer.
High jumper Tobias Potye provided an unexpected highlight. At 2.34 m, the Vice European Champion improved his personal best by four centimeters and already met the standard for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Only the Olympic champions Mutaz Essa Barshim (Qatar/2.36) and Gianmarco Tamberi (Italy/2.34) were better. At the DM in Kassel, Potye from Munich had recently won the title with 2.27 m.
Vice European Champion Bo Kanda Lita Baehre had to be content with 5.71 m and fifth place in the pole vault, nine days earlier he had won his fifth German Championship title with his season best of 5.82 m. The victory went to high-flyer Armand Duplantis (Sweden) mt 6.01 m.
Meanwhile, Katharina Trost (Munich) set a personal best in ninth place over 1500 m in 4:02.32 minutes and met the direct World Championship and Olympic standard. Niklas Buchholz (Aisch) was eleventh in his Diamond League premiere in the 3000 m steeplechase in 8:30.01 minutes.
World 100m champion Fred Kerley suffered his first loss of the season. The American was narrowly beaten in 9.98 seconds by South African Akani Simbine (9.97). Triple jump Olympic champion Yulimar Rojas (Venezuela/15.18 m) and the Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who set a European record over 1500 m in 3:27.14 minutes, provided further world bests for the year.
