Status: 04.09.2022 5:20 p.m

World champion Malaika Mihambo has again won the long jump competition at the Berlin Athletics Meeting Istaf. The Olympic champion won with her only valid jump.

At the European Championship, the 28-year-old from LG Kurpfalz had to admit defeat to Serbian Ivana Vuleta after a corona infection. Vice World Champion and Olympic bronze medalist Ese Brume from Nigeria came second in Berlin with 6.78 meters ahead of Brit Jazmin Sawyers. The EM third jumped 6.69 meters.

In the javelin throw, European champion Julian Weber was clearly the best. The Mainzer, who lives in Berlin, won with 84.90 meters. European decathlon champion Niklas Kaul finished eighth with 71.34 meters. Weber’s team-mate in Mainz had recently shown his great strength in the javelin throw while catching up to the European Championship title.

Lückenkemper is missing due to injury: Daryll Neita wins 100 m

In the absence of European Champion Gina Lückenkemper, Daryll Neita, third at the European Championships, secured victory over the 100 m at the ISTAF. The Briton won on Sunday in 11.00 seconds ahead of Celera Barnes (11.10 seconds) and Jenna Prandini (11.16/both USA). Rebekka Haase (11.42) and Lisa Mayer (both Wetzlar/11.57), Lückenkemper’s teammates in the Munich gold relay, finished sixth and seventh.

Lückenkemper, who followed the competitions on site in the Olympic Stadium, had to cancel her start after injuries from the European Championship final. The 25-year-old had won gold at the European Championships over 100 m (10.99 seconds) and in the sprint relay.

Pudenz at Müller farewell third

The outstanding performance and the greatest emotional moment came in the best athletics weather right at the start in the women’s discus throw. Olympic champion Valarie Allman from the USA won with 70.06 meters and, like last year, was too strong for Kristin Pudenz from Potsdam. The Olympic and EM second managed 65.20 meters. Shanice Craft from Mannheim came in third with 64.36 meters.

Finally, the discus throwers formed a trellis for Nadine Müller on the lawn. The former World Cup runner-up ended her last competition in eighth place with a jump of 55.73 meters. The 36-year-old from Halle/Saale will in future concentrate on her professional career with the Federal Police. “I tried to soak it all up and enjoy it again”she said afterwards in the sports show, “Berlin has kind of become my second home.”
