Without European sprint champion Gina Lückenkemper, the traditional Istaf athletics meeting will take place on Sunday in the Berlin Olympic Stadium. As the organizers announced, the 26-year-old ended her season prematurely due to a virus infection.
With the German 4×100 meter relay, Lückenkemper finished sixth in the final at the World Championships in Budapest last Saturday. She had missed the desired first-time qualification for the singles final. “I’ve had to stay in bed since returning from the World Cup in Budapest“said Lückenkemper in a statement from the ISTAF organizers. “Unfortunately I won’t get fit in time and can’t be there this time.“
From the German World Cup team, which remained without a medal in Budapest, there are, among others, European javelin champion Julian Weber and Kristin Pudenz. The Olympic silver medalist will compete in the discus competition against the Olympic champion and World Championship silver medalist Valarie Allman from the USA. Tobias Potye from Munich, who came second at the European Championships and fifth at the World Championships, will also start at the Istaf.
