Athletes from Russia and Belarus not welcome at Paralympics
Athletes from Russia and Belarus are not allowed to participate in the Winter Paralympic Games in Beijing. On Wednesday it was decided that the athletes can participate in the Paralympics under the neutral flag.
“Multiple countries are now threatening not to participate, jeopardizing the viability of the 2022 Winter Paralympics in Beijing,” reports the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) as a reason for refusing the athletes anyway. According to the IPC, the situation in the athletes’ villages is also escalating, making it increasingly difficult to guarantee the safety of athletes.
The Paralympics start on Friday.
