Atalants Gosens before moving to Inter: Most expensive German in Serie A

Only to clarify transfer details

The first version of the article appeared on January 25 at 3:51 p.m. and has been updated with new information on the negotiations that are about to be concluded.

After initial reports emerged on Tuesday that Inter Milan had overtaken Newcastle United in the courtship for international player Robin Gosen, the transfer is now apparently close to completion. According to “Sky Sport” in Italy and the transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, the 27-year-old winger has decided to stay in Italy and thus against the “Magpies”. The talks between Atalanta, where Gosens is still under contract until 2023, and Inter are nearing completion.

The Nerazzurri offer the Bergamaschi a loan until the end of the season with a purchase obligation of 22 million euros plus further bonuses for Gosens. Atalanta recently asked for around 25 million euros. The agreement is expected shortly. Either way, the left foot would become the most expensive German player to switch to a Serie A club in football history. In the rich history of German professionals in the Italian upper house, Mario Gómez, who switched from FC Bayern to AC Florenz for 15.5 million euros in 2013/14, has taken the top spot.

The amount of the fee at Gosens is related to the short remaining contract term, but also to the fact that it is unclear when the EM participant can intervene at his probably new club. Gosens has been missing for months with a hamstring injury. In coach Simone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 system, he should create a high-quality option on the left, as it is unclear whether an agreement can be reached with veteran Ivan Perisic (32) for an extension.

After initial contacts and Atalanta’s initial blocking, the negotiations between Inter and “La Dea” on Gosen’s personnel have progressed rapidly. Recently it was said that Newcastle had a good chance of getting him by Deadline Day. Now the “Magpies” have apparently fallen behind. According to Romano, an initial offer days ago from Atalanta who would most like to keep his player had been rejected.

However, the fact that the left foot cannot play immediately does not seem to deter Inter from their efforts, as a transfer should also be understood as an anticipation of the coming seasons. The Milanese are also linked with Juventus’ Federico Bernardeschi, 27, whose contract expires in the summer and could join on a free transfer. With Aleksandar Kolarov (36), an experienced professional, is likely to leave the club – if Perisic were to leave, two positions on the left side would have to be filled.

Sensi leaves Inter Milan: Ahead of a loan move to Sampdoria Genoa

Meanwhile, Stefano Sensi (contract until 2024) will turn his back on Inter in winter. The 26-year-old midfielder has joined Sampdoria on loan with the prospect of more playing time, reports say. Sensi wants to shine in the spotlight with Serie A rivals for the Italian national team. However, there is still no confirmation of his departure.
