The Atalanta condemned on Monday the racist chants that some of his fans uttered against the Senegalese central defender Naples kalidou Koulibali in the match he lost 1-3 on Sunday in Bergamo (north), on the thirty-first day of Serie A.
“Atalanta communicates that will vigorously oppose any conduct that does not conform to the principles of civilization and education that this club has always pursued,” the Bergamasco club said in a statement.
“We do not want, and we emphasize it, to give visibility to issues that have nothing to do with our environment and, therefore, without clamor or generalizations, we will act in the competent offices so that the image of the club and the city of Bergamo are protected“, concludes the note issued by the club.
The chants also outraged the mayor of the town in northern Italywho did not hesitate to ensure that these fans do not represent the club and apologized to Napoli.
“What a shame the racist insults of some Atalanta fans in the stadium. The few who shouted don’t represent us, but they manage to make us look bad. My apologies and those of the citizens to our friends in Naples,” said Giorgio Gori through his official Twitter account.
In addition, the Senegalese Football Federation came out in defense of its captain with a statement on social networks: “These mindless idiots have no place in a stadium. Strength, Kalidou. The Senegalese people wholeheartedly support him.” The Serie A sports judge, the sanctioning body, is expected to rule on the events this week.
