«The phone alarm rings and, shortly after, the“ classic ”one, which I keep in the corridor to be forced to pick myself up! I drink lemon water on the advice of my Ayurvedic doctor, then breakfast with Luca (life and work partner Luca Ricci, ed): nice strong black tea and something salty, bread and anchovies included. Two turtledoves keep us company: since the lockdown period they show up on our terrace – we live in Rome, in Porta Portese – every morning at 8.30 ».

“At work in the study, each at his desk. The morning is quiet – the world of the scenes wakes up late – and we favor what requires total concentration: a new piece, a new initiative for the festival.

Kilowatt is dedicated to emerging companies (theater, dance, performing and visual arts, music, literature) and at first it struggled to mesh, despite taking place in Sansepolcro (Arezzo)who has creativity in his DNA: Piero Della Francesca was born here … That failure, however, led us to develop the idea that made him unique: involving about forty non-professionals (from students to retirees), the “Visionaries”, who meet in winter, select the proposals that have arrived and in the end choose nine shows. Thanks to the success of this participatory approach, in 2014 we launched the BeSpectActive project (Be an active spectator): Today in Europe there are 19 groups of “Visionaries” ».

I’m at Luca’s mercy, he’s the one who cooks. But we are lucky: returning to Valtiberina a couple of times a month, we are supplied with very good and very healthy things from our mothers. And also of gluttony: my father is a truffle hunter, my aunt of mushrooms … For what is missing, in our building – a really illuminated condominium, complete with a library – there is a place where farms can sell products to zero km. After lunch I dedicate myself to the balcony, equally divided between plants, flowers and aromatic herbs“.

2.30 pm

«We move on to the commitments that involve interaction: meeting via Zoom with the staff, who work permanently in Sansepolcro, emails, phone calls to the artists, administrative issues, payments, invoices. Unmissable at 16.30 (the time when the turtledoves reappear) a tea break: we prefer Pu’er, grown in Yunan, which – a bit like wine – the more it is aged the better it is. An artist who came to us recommended it to me, Chiara Mu, who also studied the tea ceremony ».

18.30

“I force myself to disconnect. Monday, fixed appointment (since 2009!) With the hatha yoga teacher; the other days I practice alone. If we go to the theater or the cinema (preferably to the Nuovo Sacher), quick snack. Otherwise, let’s have dinner (single dish) and a series in streaming. I loved Clickbait and Breaking Bad, but I also liked Wild, Wild Country, the documentary about Osho. Cocoa tea, hot water bottle (Luca teases me!) And reading under the covers. I just finished Milkman by Anna Burns, an original story set in Northern Ireland. At midnight I turn off the light, but I mull over before falling asleep… ».
