Before the official start of the race on 10 May, the land official jerseys of the 2022 edition and the captains of all participating teams, who are 13, paraded (record for the event). Among them, many former pedal professionals, such as Igor Astarloa (Valsir 1), world champion online 2003; Damiano Cunego (RCS Sport), winner of the Giro d’Italia 2004 and of an Amstel Gold Race; Andrea Tafi (Free To X) winner of the Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix and Il Lombardia; Roberto Ferrari (Valsir 2), professional from 2007 to 2019 and winner of a stage in the Giro d’Italia; Daniele Colli (New Holland-Raspini), professional from 2005 to 2017; Andrea Ferrigato (Trenitalia), professional from 1991 to 2005, in relay with Alessandra Cappellotto, first Italian world champion in 1997 and twice bronze medal. And then Alessandra Fior (ENIT), Amedeo Tabini (FLY Cyclint Team-CDI), Roberto Chiozzotto (Randstad E-Cycling Team), Patrick Martini (Toyota), Iader Fabbri (Enel X), Emiliano Cantagallo (Sara Assicurazioni), Jacopo Rognoni (Brainvest-Stoneweg). Still to be designated the captain of Carglass, a special team that will be seen in four stages, and It’s Electric, another special team.

IO Donna will also be there, joining the other teams for the last 5 stages, from Levico Terme to the finish line in Verona on 29 May.

In the two days prior to departure, Sunday 8 and Monday 9 May, Catania hosted the first edition of EXPO-Ethe latest born among the initiatives linked to the Giro-E, developed by RCS Sport, organizer of the Giro d’Italia as well as the Giro-E, EXPO-E. A traveling fair that tells the new horizons of sustainable mobility and promotes it by creating contact between companies and the public, who can attend in-depth talks, see and test the products that make two-wheelers, electric-powered but not only, one of the pillars of tomorrow’s mobility. Catania was the first of the four planned stages. The next ones will be held over the next weekends: Naples 14 May Mostra d’Oltremare, Turin 21 May Parco del Valentino, Verona 29 May Verona Fair.

EXPO-E represents a natural variation for an event like the Giro-E, which has as its title sponsor Enel X and among its purposes that of promote the use of the electric bike in daily life to reduce fuel consumption of fossil origin and pollution. The first stage was a success. Among the stands present, those of Enel X, Helbiz, Iveco Bus, Bianchi, Trenitalia, Calabria Region. The conclusion in Verona on 29 May

The Giro-E 2022 will arrive in Verona on May 29th, later 18 stages and 1,025 kilometers in total. 24,780 meters of positive difference in height, for an average of over 1,350 meters per stagewhich will be on the one hand an exciting experience for the participants, on the other a tough one test bed for bicycle and battery manufacturers. Four stages with four stars, two at five stars, with exuberant high-altitude arrivals at the Blockhaus, at Aprica, the finish line of the Sforzato Wine Stage. In total there will be five stages with a positive difference in height of over 2,000 meters, of which one, stage number 6, the Orsegna-Blockhaus, will even exceed 3,000 (it will be 3,100, to be precise).

As in 2021, there will be a time trial (the last stage, number 18, in Verona) and Slovenia will cross over (again, like last year) for the start of stage 16, Kobarid-Santuario Castelmonte. The shortest will be 17.4 kilometers long (the time trial), the longest 96.4 (stage number 7, Civitanova Marche-Jesi). But there will be 13 stages with a length equal to or greater than 50 kilometers.
