Bizim Boys was the guest of Portugal in the play-off semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. In the fight played at Dragao Stadium, the national team, who fell 2-1 behind, brought the score to 2-1 with Burak Yılmaz, Burak Yılmaz could not benefit from the penalty shootout in the 84th minute and we were defeated 3-1 with the goal we conceded in the last moments of the fight and said goodbye to our World Cup dreams.
While the national team coach Stefan Kuntz made statements after the match, he also spoke about Burak Yılmaz.
The German coach conveyed what he said to the experienced player after the fight with the following words:
“At the end of the match, we formed a circle and came together. I said to Burak, ‘You should be proud because you are the captain of this team.’ This team wouldn’t be here without Burak’s penalty against Latvia. Sometimes you need luck.”
