They fled Ukraine from Putin’s bombs. In Berlin they celebrate life – and their love!
Sunday evening, 9:32 p.m., Olympic Stadium: Coldplay singer Chris Martin (45) has just finished his over-hit “Viva la Vida” (German: Live life). The 71,000 fans sing along to the catchy melody, Coldplay starts the next song: “Hymn for the Weekend”.
Yegor (32) kneels in front of his Julia (32). Asks if she wants to marry him. In the hand a ring box. Julia says yes. A hug, the surrounding concert-goers in the interior cheer and applaud.
The two IT specialists from Mitte have been a couple for 12 years and fled their hometown of Odessa to Berlin in February. “We’ve wanted to go to a Coldplay concert for three years, we’ve been fans from the very beginning,” says Yegor. In 2019 the band announced a concert break, then came the pandemic, then the war. Her dream finally came true in Berlin. “The show was just great, even better than expected.”
By the way, the two don’t want to wait too long with their wedding.
