The dating show B&B Vol Liefde was again a big hit in the summer schedule of RTL 4 this year. Yesterday was the final broadcast. Will there be a sequel or does the channel have a problem?

After 35 episodes, it’s over for B&B Vol Liefde. The provisional last episode of the program was watched by 949 thousand people (20 percent market share) on RTL 4 yesterday. “The program will of course come back next year and I suspect even then without presenter Art Rooijakkers,” says viewing figures expert Tina Nijkamp.

Denise slammed

The enormous success of B&B Vol Liefde also has a downside. Some candidates provoke so much irritation among viewers that they sometimes go wild: from negative fake reviews about their bed and breakfasts to hate comments and in some cases even outright threats.

Denise, in particular, suffered a lot last week because of her unsportsmanlike reaction to the departure of her date Dave. She says she has received “serious hate messages, threats and fake reviews.” “Let’s be nicer to each other (especially on social media). And let’s take TV with a grain of salt. It’s for entertainment.”

Fellow candidate Natasja is very disappointed with a 1-star review that her bed & breakfast received from an irritated RTL viewer. “Because Natasja is a true narcissist who thinks she can treat someone else as a toddler… And Menno is a dirty nipple piercing underhanded man”, read that review.

Natasja: “You can think and think you know everything about me after seeing the episodes of B&B Vol Liefde. But to consciously and intentionally place a bad review on Google goes a long way.”

Down?

RTL is very disappointed that the candidates are having such a hard time with their participation. “The hateful messages and threats that B&B owner Natasja and other candidates receive on the social media platforms is beyond limits. RTL strongly disapproves of this,” a spokesperson told NU.nl.

The big question is whether RTL can still make a new season of B&B Vol Liefde next year, because if you as a candidate get all this kind of filth all over you, why would you still want to participate?

The smartest person

The big viewing figure winner yesterday was the final of De Slimste Mens with 2.1 million viewers (40 percent) on NPO 2. “The (somewhat boring) final of De Slimste attracts slightly more viewers than last year’s summer final (almost 2 million ),” says Tina. This is followed by B&B Vol Liefde and third place is for Flikken Rotterdam with 909 thousand viewers (18 percent).

So a cautious score for Flikken. “Not ideal to start with such an expensive program opposite the final of De Slimste Mens. It costs at least 220 thousand euros per episode I suspect. Flikken Rotterdam has therefore not started very well, but has started reasonably well: 909 thousand viewers is neat but not convincing.”
