At the beginning of spring in Berlin it really was… the beginning of spring!

Now it’s official: winter is FINALLY behind us! To celebrate the beginning of spring, Berlin showed its sunniest side on Sunday. The Berliners didn’t need to be told twice – many were drawn out into the open.

On Sunday, day and night were of the same length – the equinox or equinox. This day only comes twice a year. It is defined by the position of the sun. Only on this day the sun is directly above the equator.

On Sunday, the equinox marked the astronomical or calendar beginning of spring. Summer and winter, on the other hand, are proclaimed when the sun deviates as far as possible from the equator, on June 21st and December 21st.

The clear days are particularly long or particularly short here.

The good news: we can continue to look forward to the picture-book spring. Plenty of sunshine and maximum temperatures of up to 18 degrees on Wednesday are forecast for the next few days.
