At least three killed, twenty injured in rocket attack in Kramatorsk

In the eastern Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk, at least three people were killed and 20 others injured when a building containing apartments was hit by a Russian missile strike. This has been stated by the Kramatorsk police, reports Reuters news agency.

The projectile, police said was an Iskander-K missile, struck the building in Kramatorsk, about 55 kilometers northwest of Bachmut, at about 10 p.m. local time. “At least eight apartment buildings have been hit. One of them has been completely destroyed,” the police wrote on Facebook. “There are still people under the rubble.”

The region’s governor Pavlo Kyrylenko shared a photo of a four-story building that was severely damaged. The Ukrainian chapter of Radio Free Europe published a short video showing rescuers working under floodlights as it snowed.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that Russian shelling in eastern Donetsk province is intensifying. Heavy fighting continues unabated in eastern Ukraine, Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar added Wednesday evening.

“A clear increase can be observed in the offensive operations of the occupiers at the front in the east of our country,” Zelensky said in a video message on Wednesday evening. “The situation is getting more difficult.”

The Russian armed forces are trying to make gains to show by the first anniversary of the invasion on February 24, according to Zelensky.
