At least one person has died and several have been injured by a powerful explosion of unidentified origin that occurred this Sunday on the busy Istiklal avenue in the capital of Turkey, istanbul.
The Governor of Istanbul Ali Yerlikaya, has confirmed that the explosion took place around 14.20Spanish peninsular time, as well as the deaths on his Twitter account, without giving more details.
Firefighters, police and medical teams are already moving to the area, as emergency sources have confirmed to the Bursa Haberdar portal.
State broadcaster TRT and other media have shown ambulances and police officers heading to the scene on Istanbul’s popular Istiklal street in the Beyoglu district. The state agency Anadolu has indicated that the cause of the explosion is still unknown.
The nearby Kasimpasa police station said all teams were at the scene but gave no further details.

The security forces have already cordoned off the area and cleared the street of passers-by to facilitate care for the victims.
The istiklal avenueor Avenida de la Independencia, is one of the busiest streets in the city and is home to numerous businesses.
