At least four skiers killed by avalanche in France, two more missing

Four people were killed in an avalanche in Mont-Dore, a ski resort in central France, on Sunday afternoon. French regional media and the AFP news agency report this. The skiers were part of a group of nine. Three survived the avalanche, while the search continues for two others.

The avalanche occurred around half past two in the afternoon and was probably caused by the skiers themselves, who were making an off-piste descent. A lot of snow fell in the area in recent days and there was a warning of avalanche danger. Two skiers from the group managed to escape unscathed, while another was injured. The group’s guide was among the fatalities. Dogs and about fifty rescue workers are searching for the two missing people, AFP writes. It is currently unknown which country the victims come from.

Mont-Dore is located in a mountain area in central France. It is one of the worst skiing accidents in the country in the past twenty years, write local media. On X advise the authorities to avoid the area or to follow safety instructions.
