At least four dead in a mass shooting in Philadelphia

Four people died and four others were injured in a mass shooting this Monday night in the city of Philadelphiain a new chapter of armed violence in the United States, local media reported.

Philadelphia police spokesman Miguel Torres confirmed to AFP that there was multiple victims with bullet wounds but did not give a number or details.

The Philadelphia Enquirer, CNN and others reported that a suspect in the shooting, which occurred in the Kingsessing neighborhood east of the city, had been arrested.

The Enquirer said police detained a man who was wearing a bulletproof vest and seized a rifle and a revolver, as well as ammunition magazines in an alley.

The publication described the crime scene as extensive, with several people injured in different locations.

The United States accumulates 339 mass shootings so far this year, according to the organization Gun Violence Archive, which classifies as a shooting an act of armed violence in which at least four people are killed or injured.
