At least five Palestinians killed in Israeli attack on West Bank

At least five Palestinians have been killed in an attack by Israeli forces in the West Bank city of Nablus. Twenty people were injured, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, several news agencies reported on Tuesday. Israel is said to have bombarded the area from the air, hitting an explosives depot, which then exploded. The Israeli attack is one of the deadliest this year in the West Bank.

news agency AP writes that the target of the attack was a group of armed Palestinians. The group is said to have been responsible for the death of an Israeli soldier and several attacks in the country. Israel is also said to have targeted a number of young people who threw stones and protested against the raid. The Palestinian ministry says the five dead are in their twenties and thirties and one of them was unarmed. Some of the injured are still in serious and life-threatening condition.

Tensions between Israel and Palestinians in the West Bank have risen in recent months. To date, more than 125 Palestinians have died in Israeli-Palestinian clashes. Israel is not only in conflict with Hamas, but also with the smaller Islamic Jihad group, which was founded in the 1980s. The group regularly cooperates with Hamas in their fight against Israel.
