At least five dead as cyclone hits Myanmar and Bangladesh | Weather news

According to the British channel ‘BBC’, Mocha did cause considerable damage in Kutupalong, the largest refugee camp in the world in the coastal town of Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh. More than a thousand tents and huts were destroyed. Kutupalong is home to nearly a million refugees who have escaped Myanmar’s military regime.

Thousands of people were evacuated in both countries in anticipation of the cyclone. At least 300,000 people were taken to safer areas in Bangladesh on Sunday and 100,000 in Myanmar.

Images shared on social media on Sunday and Monday show that there is a lot of water damage, especially in the state of Rakhine in Myanmar. A number of villages have been flooded and houses and other buildings have been destroyed. Cyclone Mocha has since weakened considerably and will no longer pose a threat on Monday.
