At least eight killed in shooting in Jerusalem synagogue, perpetrator killed | Abroad

At least eight people have been killed in a shooting at a synagogue in a Jewish suburb in East Jerusalem, Israeli media report. At least five people were injured, according to emergency services in the Israeli-sieged part of the city. The police, speaking of a terrorist attack, killed the perpetrator.

The gunman started firing as people left the prayer house in the Neve Yaakov neighborhood after the Sabbath celebration. He was shot when he tried to flee. According to local media, the police are looking for another suspect.

The United States has already condemned the “terrible” attack.

The situation between Israel and Palestinians has been tense after an army operation in the West Bank this week left nine dead, including Palestinian militants. It then came to rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip, which Israel responded with airstrikes.
