At least eight people have been killed in clashes believed to have had everything to do with taking control of a cement factory in Mexico. Eleven others were injured in the fighting in the central state of Hidalgo.
Nine suspects were arrested after the violence, which occurred early Wednesday morning, Governor Omar Fayad announced on Twitter. TV images show how several vehicles were set on fire.
Within the cement cooperative Cruz Azul, two factions have been battling for control of the factory near the city of Tula for years. Local media are now reporting that this conflict has led to this bloody confrontation. Authorities only spoke of violent clashes between two groups at one of the factory entrances.
Cruz Azul is one of the largest cement manufacturers in Mexico. Since the early 1930s, the company has been organized as a cooperative. The company owns four factories and also the soccer club of the same name, which plays in the Mexican top league.
