In Bangladesh, floodwaters from northeast India broke a large dam in the Borak River, shared by both countries, flooding dozens of villages. About two million people had to leave their homes as a result.
The damage was also extensive in India. On Saturday, 850,000 residents in the Assam region were affected by the storm. Farmland and houses were especially damaged. Some 90,000 people now rely on the support of state-run shelters.
Experts say the climate crisis will increase the likelihood of extreme weather events in this Asian region. Meanwhile, the worst in terms of rainfall seems to be over in both countries.
