A landslide that hit several homes in Colombia has killed at least 11 people and injured 35 others. This is according to the country’s disaster management agency.
The incident took place today in Dosquebradas, close to the city of Pereira, after heavy rains hit the region.
Dozens of people were evacuated from the area, known for its coffee cultivation, after the Otun River overflowed its banks.
Landslides are a regular occurrence in Colombia due to the mountainous terrain, heavy rainfall, and construction practices that often leave something to be desired.
In 2017, 320 more people were killed in a huge landslide in the city of Mocoa.
