At least 100 people have been killed in a bomb attack in the Somali capital Mogadishu. At least 300 others were injured. Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has confirmed this.
Two car bombs went off in quick succession at a busy intersection. Authorities say the terrorist group Al-Shabaab is behind the attack. The death toll is expected to rise further.
The target was probably the Ministry of Education and a school. The first explosion hit the ministry and the second explosion occurred as ambulances arrived and people tried to help the victims, a police officer told Reuters news agency.
Mogadishu has been the target of attacks by violent groups such as Al-Shabaab. The attack took place on the same spot where more than 500 people died in an attack five years ago.
