BVB striker completes rehab
Goalscorer Sébastien Haller, who is suffering from testicular cancer, has returned to the football field. The Borussia Dortmund signing completed a session on Tuesday at the training ground of his former club Ajax Amsterdam, with whom he had won the Dutch championship in 2021 and 2022 before joining BVB. “He asked us if he could come to practice because he’s in rehab here. Then of course it’s wonderful that he can be there for a while,” said Ajax coach Alfred Schreuder at a press conference.
Haller trained on a side pitch, more sessions are to follow. The 28-year-old had undergone surgery for his cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy. According to him, a second operation is also not excluded. He was diagnosed with a malignant testicle tumor in July at the BVB training camp.
Schedule in mind: BVB professional Haller hopes to return soon
Haller was at the Ballon d’Or ceremony a week ago and commented on his state of health there. “All is well. If I’m here today, it’s because everything is fine, things are going as well as possible,” said Haller. It is unclear when he will return to BVB team training.

Haller recently spoke candidly about his treatment process in an interview published on UEFA’s website. “I spend five days straight in the hospital, hooked up 24 hours a day and unable to get out of bed while the treatments are injected into my body. Then I have a two-week break. This cycle is a phase and I have to do this four times in total. Four phases of chemotherapy, each lasting about three weeks,” said the Ivorian international, adding: “Depending on how my cancer develops and spreads, I’ll have to have an operation.”

But he is optimistic and has a schedule in mind. If he does not have to be operated on again, “and that would be very lucky, it could even happen quite quickly. Three weeks after the last cycle, it is checked how the metastases have developed and whether an operation is necessary. If I don’t need surgery, I think I should be in good shape after those three weeks. Also given my training.”
