While Berliners are sweating in the sun on the hot weekend, these harbingers of Christmas seem to be doing quite well in an Edeka branch in Zehlendorf-Mitte…
Rows of people stop in front of the pallets, taking incredulous photos: Gingerbread, Santa Clauses, red cabbage, everything a person in the Christmas spirit desires is well sorted next to each other and waiting for customers, with an outside temperature of 30 degrees, at the beginning of July!
But why are the old chocolate gentlemen already cavorting on the shelves?
► The store manager has an explanation for the most photographed product of the day: This week the Christmas range for the EDEKA brochures was photographed in his store during this year’s Christmas season and an advertisement was shot.
And if you already have Santa Claus and Co. in the shop, you don’t want to store them for long! That’s why the decision was made to sell them right away. Not without a wink.
Signs in front of the pallets with the Christmas goods read: “Summer Clause is coming – it doesn’t always have to be like ice in the sunshine. Treat yourself to Christmas in summer at a GREAT PRICE! Why? Because it works.” Another sign explains: “Why do we already have Christmas goods? We just shot an Edeka Christmas commercial”.
