Asylum shelter in a hotel in Uden can finally open, the municipality issues a permit

About three hundred asylum seekers can be permanently accommodated in the Van der Valk hotel in Uden. The municipality of Maashorst, which includes Uden, issued a permit for the shelter on Tuesday, news agency ANP and Broadcasting Brabant. The first asylum seekers may be housed in the hotel as early as Wednesday. They are expected to stay there until October 1, 2026 at the latest.

Local residents had previously objected to the reception of the asylum seekers in the hotel, after which the East Brabant court ruled earlier this month that the asylum seekers were not allowed to stay in the hotel for the time being. The municipality then had to make a decision on the application from the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA).

On Monday, the court in Den Bosch suspended the previous judgment on housing. The court ruled that the asylum seekers can go to the hotel as soon as the permit has been obtained. The municipality has now arranged this.
