Asylum seekers are in danger of having to sleep in the Ter Apel waiting area again

Asylum seekers are in danger of having to sleep in waiting rooms of the IND in Ter Apel again this weekend.

“We expect to be able to accommodate everyone this weekend,” writes the COA. “Waiting areas will probably be used for this purpose to give people who report to Ter Apel in the evening a place to sleep.”

Earlier this week, asylum seekers also had to spend the night in waiting areas. People were forced to sleep on chairs or mattresses on the floor.

Spending the night in waiting areas is the result of (too) high pressure on asylum reception facilities. “We are still faced with too few options in the country to accommodate the influx in Ter Apel,” COA wrote this week. “There are hardly any margins left.”
