Asylum seekers again at night on chairs due to crowds of Ter Apel reception

Also in the night from Thursday to Friday, there were more asylum seekers at the application center in Ter Apel than there were beds available. Just over fifty people had to spend the night on chairs in the application center, a spokeswoman for the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) reported Friday.

Ter Apel has been struggling for some time with large crowds because the flow of permit holders from reception locations to homes is stagnating. As a result, COA often has to find extra places to sleep at the last minute and asylum seekers sometimes sleep on chairs. There is room for 2000 people in Ter Apel.

It was again so busy in Ter Apel, despite measures in force. For example, State Secretary Eric van der Burg of Asiel announced on Tuesday that the security regions will take turns providing emergency emergency shelter for six hundred asylum seekers, 150 each for two weeks.

Friesland and Groningen now do this in sports halls in Heerenveen and Leek, Zeeland has the former library of Terneuzen available. As far as is known, Amsterdam-Amstelland does not yet have a location.
