Asylum center Lombardsijde closes and will not become a buffer center
The federal government wants to provide 5,400 buffer places for asylum seekers in the long term. Lombardsijde is not one of them, because there is no longer a contract with the landlord of that area. Wouter Vermeersch: “For us, this closure should be final. It is impossible to explain to the population that asylum seekers are accommodated in a holiday residence with a sea view and a private beach.”
After the closure of the asylum center, the site will once again be a holiday domain and tourist activities can resume.
