Astronomers capture largest cosmic explosion ever: “Fireball 100 times the size of the solar system”

For a year, a flicker graced the starry sky unnoticed, until it grew brighter and astronomers caught sight of it. It turns out to be the largest cosmic explosion ever recorded, and that spectacle has now been going on for three years. “In three years, this event has released about 100 times as much energy as the sun in its 10 billion-year lifetime.”
