Astrid Slind surprised everyone in the women’s 15 km combined race.
35-year-old Norwegian skier Astrid Slind got on the lips of the skiing people on Saturday, when she grabbed the WC bronze in the women’s 15 km combined race in Planica.
Slindi was not planned to be among the medal favorites beforehand, but the 35-year-old skier proved the estimates to be in vain.
Slind also surprised in another way at the World Championships. The Norwegian skied in quite a summer outfit – he was only wearing shorts. Other women wore long-legged outfits.
He ended up in shorts just a few minutes before the start of the race.
– I had to wear a race suit for the competition, but the zipper broke. We ended up having to cut the suit. I couldn’t get another suit over the mono, so that had to be cut as well, Slind commented about his outfit to the Norwegian for Dagbladet.
Ingvild Östberg watched the event from the side. Östberg finished seventh in the race.
– He didn’t have time to take off his overalls, so he had to cut the suit. I was laughed at.
It wasn’t the first time Slind skied in a summer outfit. In November, the Norwegian uploaded a video to his Instagram account, where he skis in winter landscapes with his upper body almost bare.
In the same video, some of the other skiers are wearing a beanie and a jacket.
– I’m quite warm, and I don’t like the feeling when my body heats up too much. I prefer to reduce clothes. The matter can easily be misunderstood as that I like to show a bare surface, Slind said at the time to the Norwegian TV2.
Slind is competing in the World Championships for the first time in his career.
Earlier in his career, Slind has mostly skied long-distance Ski Classics competitions. He has won 12 races in his career and once finished second in the overall competition.
This season, he is 11th in the points standings, although he has not participated in every race this season.
The Norwegian returned to the cross-country world cup for this season. He had appeared in the World Cup competition for the last time in 2014.
