A 1954 Aston Martin DB2 Vignale that once belonged to our King Baudouin is for sale in Great Britain. You have to dig deep into your pocket for it. The asking price on the specialized classifieds site for classic and exotic cars Dyler is 4.4 million euros.
It is Aston Workshop – a British company that restores and sells Aston Martins – that offers the car. It was commissioned by King Baudouin made by Carrozzeria Vignale, an Italian company that designed and produced exclusive car bodies for various car brands from 1946 to 1974. Also for a Ferrari 250MM of Boudewijn’s stepmother, Lilian Baels.
According to Aston Workshop it is an extremely rare 1954 Aston Martin DB2/4 Vignale with special body and unique interior.
Maseratis
Boudewijn was 24 years old when he ordered the car in 1954. It was delivered in March 1955. The king had a penchant for beautiful cars, according to the specialist Aston Martin magazine ‘Vantage’. In addition to the DB2/4 Vignale, he also owned a Porsche Spyder and several Maseratis.
In the late 1950s, however, the car was sold to TR Mottershead and ended up in France. Then to James Toth, an American soldier who was working for NATO in Paris in the early 1960s and discovered the car in an illegal garage. Toth took it to the United States and damaged the engine. Later he sold it to an army captain, but by then the car could no longer drive.
scrap heap
In the 1990s, the Aston Martin was found on a scrap yard in the US state of Virginia. Initially, no one knew that it was a car of King Baudouin. Aston Workshop bought the wreck, but didn’t start renovations right away. It wasn’t until the company found out who had owned the car that things started to pick up speed.
Last year the renovation was finally completed. And now the car is for sale. All technical information can be found on the site of Dyler or Aston Workshop†
