Assize process for double room murder started

Two young students, a 19-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy, were found dead. They had been stabbed to death. The accused is now 24 years old. He denies the double murder and is going for an acquittal.

It is a 24-year-old Afghan from Kortrijk who is on trial for the murder of the Russian young woman Youlia from Kuurne and her Afghan ex-boyfriend Nessar. The key question in the trial is whether this is really a double murder or is the accused’s version correct that he acted in self-defense and that the girl had already been killed before.

Jan Leysen, family lawyer of the female victim: “The challenge lies primarily in the question of guilt. After all, the accused claims that he is innocent, which is of course his right. And it is a challenge for us to show that this is not the case. We believe that there are sufficient arguments to prove his guilt. We will have a whole week of debate on that. It will mainly be about that.”
