There is a very good chance that Pepijn Lijnders will also serve as the right-hand man of coach Jürgen Klopp at the English top club Liverpool in the coming years.
According to the well-informed The Athletic the assistant coach from Broekhuizenvorst, as well as manager Klopp and some other staff members, extends his contract with the reds until the summer of 2026.
Two years extra
Both Klopp and Lijnders’ contracts ran for another year, until 2024. But given Liverpool’s strong performance and the lingering interest of other top clubs, the club management were eager to break open the commitments.
Good luck
Lijnders previously worked at PSV and FC Porto, after which he became an assistant coach at Liverpool in 2015. He briefly exchanged Anfield in 2018 for Goffert from Nijmegen, where he had little success as the head coach of NEC. That same year he returned to Klopp’s staff in Liverpool, where he is regarded as the first assistant to the charismatic German success coach.
Champions League and title
With Klopp in front of the group, Liverpool won the Champions League, UEFA Supercup and the World Cup for club teams in 2019. A year later, the club of Orange captain Virgil van Dijk seized the English national title for the first time in thirty years.
in the race
Liverpool are now back in the race for the league title and the Champions League. In its own country, it is one point behind leader Manchester City in second place, in the Champions League the first semi-final match against Villarreal was won 2-0 on Wednesday.
