The Assen Wielercentrum ASSEN Foundation has to be baking at the College of B and W, if she wants to get its urgently desired roof over the cycling track. A much cheaper variant was recently launched for this. In any case, there is no action from politics. According to D66, that is an ‘impassable road’.
Behind the scenes, D66 councilor Dorien has been busy with a motion in recent weeks. In order to try to pull something loose for the Wielercentrum Assen (SWA) Foundation that uses the cycling track. D66 wanted a cheaper roof plan, of 1.4 million euros, tested by the college.
“But we have counted the heads, there is no majority. For many parties it is a closed book, that canopy. So let’s rest for now. It is now up to the cycling foundation itself to get started,” says from the side.
Last year, a half -open roof of 3.5 million euros was shot politically by the Asser. The roof hung together with a sports campus. But politics does not want a roof, and a sports campus.
March of this year De SWA suddenly conjured up its own, much cheaper plan from the top hat: a closed roof above the Kombaan, with sides that can close via an electrical system. Cost 1.4 million euros, of which 700,000 euros must come from the municipality.
De SWA itself has 3 tons in Kas, saved on municipal contributions, intended for a roof. Furthermore, 2 tons from the province and 2 tons of the government are assumed. This way a 7 -tonne hole remains, covering by Assen.
D66 from the side enthusiastically brewed at the time. “This sounds like a beautiful, feasible and affordable plan. We see something in it, and demolition costs more.” Very sin, says D66. She wanted to know if it really possible for that price, and wanted the college to be calculated. “They were not public pieces, so we had no insight into it.” But D66 does not get the rest for a calculation test.
On the side, the cycling foundation advised to take action itself towards the college. “They have to put their plan there so that it can be tested. That is their only chance.”
Chairman Ger Heinga of De SWA takes that advice to heart. He is very disappointed in politics. “Very regrettable that they don’t like that motion. But if the city council does not want to ask the mayor and aldermen to properly test the plan again, then we do that ourselves. To show that it is realizable.”
The municipality can expect a letter about this soon. Without a roof, the wooden cycling track has been written down. But Heeringa is not yet giving up. “I keep believing in a roof cycling track.”
