Assenaar punished for sexually exploiting younger woman

A 53-year-old man from Assen has been sentenced to 450 days in prison, of which 134 days are suspended, for sexually exploiting a woman thirty years younger. The man has been in custody for 316 days and therefore does not have to go back to prison.

The sentence is less than the required 3.5 years in prison. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) demanded that punishment for the sexual exploitation of three women. The judge believes that two women were able to make their own choice at the time. They may regret what happened afterwards, but they are not forced to. The man has been acquitted of sexually exploiting those two women.

It is different with the woman for whom the man has been convicted. He met the then 19-year-old woman in 2016. The two soon had a love affair that turned into a dependency relationship. According to the judge, the man abused his power over the much younger and in love woman. After a year, he persuaded her to take drugs and she was offered to other men for money.

According to the judge, the Assenaar knew that the woman had a difficult childhood and that he was dealing with a vulnerable woman without a social network. The Assenaar only attached importance to his own comfort and that he could earn something from her. In 2019, that relationship came to an end. The Assenaar was arrested in August 2021. Officers found a large supply of hard drugs in his home. The Assenaar now has a job and seems to have his life in order.

The court awarded the victim €7,500 in damages. The man also earned 1,500 euros from the sexual exploitation. That money will be passed on to him.
