The municipality of Assen will not pay the energy surcharge of 1,300 euros in 2023 to low incomes in one go. Initially, an amount of 500 euros will be paid out, the remaining 800 euros can be paid out on 1 July, provided that national legislation has been adopted by then.
This allowance is intended for residents with an income of up to 120 percent of social assistance benefits, as a result of the increased energy costs. In 2022, the municipality will have received approximately 6.5 million euros to pay this allowance. The group of residents with an income between 120 and 130 percent of the social assistance standard could apply for a one-off allowance of 750 euros.
The legislation was changed in December, so that the full energy surcharge of 1,300 euros may only be paid from 1 July. Municipalities will be given the option to first pay out 500 euros and to transfer the remaining 800 from 1 July.
Households with an income between 120 and 130 percent, who received the one-off energy allowance in 2022, can receive a supplementary payment of 500 euros. The municipality of Assen has also decided that young people aged 18, 19 and 20 and students living away from home are entitled to the energy allowance.
The municipality has received an advance from the government, with which the provisional energy allowances are paid. In the course of the month, it will be announced how much money the municipality will receive definitively.
