People who park their bicycle in the center of Assen in a place where that is not allowed, can be addressed by a bicycle steward from Saturday. The municipality is starting a two-month trial with the aim of reducing bicycle nuisance.
According to Assen, the stewards are not enforcers. “They address people in a positive way if they park their bicycle in places where it is not allowed and on their cycling behaviour,” according to the municipality.
The stewards also provide visitors with information about where bicycles may be parked and about the tourist attractions in the city centre. The employees are mainly deployed around Koopmansplein and Kruisstraat.
After two months, the trial will be evaluated and it will be determined whether the deployment of the bicycle steward will be continued.
