ASML wants to buy half a street for ‘almost double the asking price’

Chip machine manufacturer ASML keeps buying properties in Veldhoven. This time, the company has set its sights on thirteen residential houses on Heerseweg, close to the current ASML site. There will be an information meeting on Wednesday evening, where residents will be given the proposal to move to a new housing estate that is yet to be built. But ASML is doing more to appease these people.

Earlier research by Omroep Brabant showed that ASML has already spent almost twenty million euros on several buildings spread over the Heiberg in Veldhoven in just over a year. Some plots are officially still intended for agriculture. But in order to be able to expand in the long term, ASML likes to look ahead, it seems.

‘No one wants to leave’
Because the company has even more buildings in its sights. This time it is not about separate (commercial) buildings and plots, but about thirteen residential houses, which are located next to each other on the Heerseweg. ASML offers a lot of money for the houses.

“None of the neighbors want to leave here,” says resident Frans Hendriks, sitting at the kitchen table. He likes to live on the Heerseweg and has done a lot of renovations to his house over the years. “But they offer an absurdly high fee,” he continues. How absurd? “Almost double the asking price. Like you won the lottery.”

Hendriks was advised by a broker as soon as ASML came into the picture. Gradually, he and his wife felt more and more interested in selling their house. After two talks with the chip machine manufacturer, they have already decided on the price: “It’s in black and white.”

‘Spacious bungalow’
And that’s what more neighbors think about it. They know the stories of the Heiberg, for example about the man who sold his industrial hall for over four million in November. To get everyone on the same page, ASML is organizing a residents’ meeting on Wednesday evening. Location: project developer Land ‘s-Heeren on, how could it be otherwise, the Heiberg.

Visitors will be ‘included in the developments surrounding a new project’, the invitation states. It concerns ‘homes in all shapes and sizes, from a senior home to a spacious bungalow’. The prospect of moving into a new housing estate together with the neighbors appeals to Frans and his wife. Moreover, there is a good chance that the district will end up in Veldhoven.

‘No ASML meeting’
ASML informs Omroep Brabant that it cannot say anything about the meeting. Although the invitation was sent by an employee of the company, ‘it is not an ASML meeting’. Project developer Land ‘s-Heeren could not be reached for comment on Wednesday afternoon.
