Asian tiger mosquito reappears at Breda

The Asian tiger mosquito has reappeared in the municipality of Breda. The beast, which can spread nasty infectious diseases, has been seen several times in Teteringen since 24 August.

The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) warns residents of Teteringen with a letter, reports BN DeStem. People who see a tiger mosquito can report this to the NVWA. The mosquito is quite small and has black and white skin.

Dengue fever
The Asian tiger mosquito can transmit nasty diseases such as dengue fever if it stings. But the chance that people in the Netherlands will get sick from the mosquito is small. This is because these infectious diseases hardly occur in our country, according to the NVWA.

A sting from the Asian tiger mosquito can be annoying. The bite is comparable to that of normal mosquitoes in the Netherlands.

piggyback
Tiger mosquito eggs surfaced near Zevenbergschen Hoek last year. In 2020, people saw the mosquito in Bladel and, just like now, in the municipality of Breda. The animal often hitchhikes with international transport or holidaymakers who come from abroad.
