Ascension Day has been an officially recognized Christian holiday for many years, but if you ask the average Dutch person why it is a holiday, there will not be an answer very quickly. The Passion Ascension should change that. This edition has the same characteristic elements as the normal passion such as well-known music hits, Dutch celebrities who interpret the roles of Jesus, Mary and the disciples and a message of hope.
The Passion Ascension this Thursday on TV
The cast is the same as the Easter passion † Kim-Lian van der Meij plays Mary Magdalene and Soy Kroon plays Jesus. Thomas Cammaert has the role of Petrus and Noortje Herlaar that of Maria. Ruud de Wild is again the narrator.
Also the well-known music hits will not be missing. Both Dutch-language and Dutch-translated international hits are given within the context of The Passion Ascension a surprising new cargo. Songs such as ‘Ze Huilt Maar Ze Lacht’ (Moon), ‘Goud’ (Suzan & Freek), a translation of Higher Power (Coldplay) and ‘My land is jou land’ (Stef Bos) can be heard in this edition. .
Mary Magdalene
The Passion Ascension gives meaning to the character of Mary Magdalene. She is a biblical character with multiple faces, a woman who would also stand out in this day and age. Mary Magdalene is the first to discover that Jesus’ tomb is empty and has the first contact with him after his crucifixion. What is striking about Mary Magdalene is that, according to the stories, she has been worn out for half her life, but is put in a leading position by Jesus and after his death will bring the message: ‘Everything will be fine!’ She receives the message to continue the work with the disciples. Meanwhile, Mary and the disciples mourn and Peter wanders elsewhere through the Achterhoek. He feels a lot of guilt for abandoning his best friend. Can Peter, Mary and the disciples assume without proof that Jesus is still alive?
