Next free transfer deal
Houssem Aouar (24) has completed the first transfer of his professional career. The central midfielder leaves his training club Olympique Lyon after 14 years and moves to AS Roma on a free transfer, where he has a working paper dated until 2028. His contract signed with OL in 2018 ends June 30.
Roma, who will compete in the Europa League next season, are now establishing themselves more and more as a top address for free transfer players: in the summer of 2022, coach José Mourinho brought Paulo Dybala, Andrea Belotti and Nemanja Matic to the Giallorossi.
Aouar peaked in market value in March 2020 when the current Algeria international was still a candidate for the France team. However, it was not enough for more than one friendly against Ukraine (7-1), in which he managed to get two assists. Aouar’s development stagnated and his form curve was pointing downwards, especially in 2022/23 – this was also reflected in his market value, which has now reached 15 million euros.
Before signing in Rome, the Lyon-born footballer was linked with Real Betis and Nottingham Forest last summer, before contract negotiations with Eintracht Frankfurt collapsed this year.
