As a father, Luuk Ikink has no understanding for Wietze de Klager

As a father of young children, Luuk Ikink has no understanding for Wietze de Jager, who has been renamed ‘Wietze de Klager’ by RTL Boulevard. “I can’t imagine it.”

Wietze de Jager states that he cannot combine his family life – he has three children and a fourth is on the way – with making a few hours of radio a day. That is why Radio 538 is forced to change the morning show for the umpteenth time, which is of course not good for the recognisability of the programming.

Luke full of misunderstanding

What does Luuk Ikink think of it? He understands that Radio 538 is looking for a motivated DJ who wants to commit to the morning show for many years to come. “What I can’t understand from Wietze is why he didn’t say to 538: ‘Of course I’m going for that commitment, because I’ll have four kids soon and then you’ll have a completely structured life.’”

Luuk himself also has a daily program, but in the evening. He does not understand why Wietze finds it so difficult to make a daily morning show. “You get up early in the morning, you go to work, you do your morning show and then of course you do other things. And then you go home.”

‘It’s so crazy’

It is a luxury to come home so early. People with a normal job are away from home all day. “Then you pick up your children from school and then you are with your children, you can put them to bed, you can eat with them, you go to bed at the same time as the children. I can’t imagine you saying: ‘No, I don’t want that anymore.’”

Bizarre, Luke thinks. He continues in the BLVD Podcast: “Yes, it is the highest possible thing you can do. I find that really crazy.”

Job of his life

Wietze misses the job of his life, Luuk thinks. “He is a young father with a family of four children of different ages. So you fall exactly in the target group of 538. You are the target group and you can easily connect with the listener. I would say you should use that. I’m sorry.

“He worked so hard to get here. He really had the drive to get there, then you’re there and then this.”
