Finnish wrestler Arvi Savolainen finished third in a tough tournament organized in Warsaw, the Painiliitto informs.

Savolainen won four of his five matches in the 97-kilogram Greco-Roman wrestling. One of them was a surrender win. At the same time, Savolainen rose to third in the recent world ranking. The ranking is the highest ranking ranking by a Finnish athlete since Petra Ollin number one at the end of 2018.

In Warsaw, Savolainen beat, among others, the Pole who won bronze in Tokyo Tadeusz Michalik. The Finn’s only loss came against world number one Iran Mohammadhadi Saravia against. Saravi is also the reigning world champion in Greco-Roman wrestling.

Also Matias Lipasti ranked third in Poland. He won three of his four matches in 72-kilogram Greco-Roman wrestling.

The tournament was part of the representative wrestlers’ preparation for the World Wrestling Championships in September, which will be held in Belgrade.

Earlier this spring, Savolainen won EC silver in Hungary. At that time, he lost the EC final to the Bulgarian Kiril Milov.
