A year ago, former Bundesliga professional Arturo Vidal switched to Flamengo with the words: “Today a dream came true that I’ve had all my life”. From now on, the former Munich and Leverkusen player is no longer a “Mengão”, the contract in Rio de Janeiro was terminated after only twelve months, as the Série A club announced on Thursday.
Flamengo wrote that an agreement was reached with the 36-year-old midfielder to end the collaboration. According to media reports, Vidal wants to join Club Athletico Paranaense. The Chilean’s working paper at Flamengo would have been valid until the end of the year.
During his career, Vidal has brought in transfer proceeds totaling around 76 million euros. His transfer to FC Bayern in 2015 for more than 39 million euros was the most expensive of his career, the cheapest after Leverkusen eight years earlier for 5 million euros directly from Chile. Vidal joined his dream club Flamengo on a free transfer only after his contract was terminated last year from Inter Milan, where he scored two goals and provided three assists in 51 appearances and won the Brazilian Cup and the Copa Libertadores with the team.
