Artists go crazy in Roden for a consumption voucher. ‘We were already at Atovero two days after the fire’

Five bands, four DJs, a singer and a dance group: the varied benefit evening, Friday in catering company De Pompstee in Roden, was a true party.

The occasion was less cheerful. On Tuesday, January 31, a multi-company building on the Tweede Energieweg in Roden went up in flames. Floris Roelfzema of Sound Link (rental of sound and lighting equipment), among others, saw his working capital melt in the scorching fire.

“But we immediately put our shoulders to the wheel”, says Roelfzema. He once started DJing at scouting Mensinge, but soon discovered that it was better for everyone if he didn’t make it his profession. So he went into the rental business. A good choice. In any case, Sound Link is indispensable when there is a party in Roden. ,,But we also do company parties at ‘L Oréal and Shell.’

Top priority after the fire was to get back to work quickly. That worked out pretty well. “The fire was on Tuesday, on Thursday we were back to work at the Atovero.” They were able to get a job at this theater association in Roden because befriended entrepreneurs came to the rescue from all sides and lent out material.

Benefit for victims

That gave Roelfzema the opportunity to catch his breath and recover. And now the benefit for the victims of the fire. De Pompstee made the room available for free, there are staff who want to work for free, friendly landlords lend equipment and the artists go wild for a consumption voucher. Roelfsema feels supported by the Roder community. “It’s great that they organize this.”
